Governor Evers approves WIS 29 improvements in Brown County

Fencing project work begins February 27, 2023

(Green Bay) To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $1.56 million contract to improve 8.25 miles of WIS 29 between WIS 156 and I-41 in Brown County. Construction will begin Monday, February 27, 2023 and finish by fall of this year. WIS 29 will remain open during work.

Highway Landscapers, Inc. of Little Chute, Wis. is the Prime Contractor.

Project improvements

This is a maintenance-level improvement that will install right-of-way fencing and a living snow fence along WIS 29 in the project locations. Different types of rights-of-way fencing will be installed at various locations.

Right-of-way fencing types include:

Four-foot wire fence, six-foot chain link fence, six-foot slatted chain link fence.
The living snow fence will be located along the western end of the project on the south side of WIS 29.

It will be approximately 3,000 feet in length and consist of rows of shrubs approximately 10 feet wide.
The shrubs will be placed just inside the right-of-way fence.

Traffic impacts

WIS 29 will remain open during construction with lane and shoulder closures.

Project benefits

The living snow fence are installed at locations most practical to mitigate blowing and drifting. The living snow fence will increase safety and reduce snow removal maintenance costs. Right-of-way fencing is used to establish access controls and enhances safety by preventing off-road vehicles or pedestrians from accidently accessing the highway.

Each year in Wisconsin, both highway workers and motorists are killed and injured in crashes that happen in highway construction zones. Motorists should slow down, be patient and pay attention to their surroundings in this and all work zones.
