Release date: February 20, 2023
Because of inclement weather in the forecast, the start of a $4.25 million project to replace three bridges on WIS 35 that carry traffic over a tributary of the Mississippi River in Buffalo County has been pushed back from today to Monday, Feb. 27.
Built in 1951, the three structures have reached the end of their lives. Two are in Fountain City; one is northwest of Cedar Street, and the other is southwest of the intersection of WIS 35 and Old 35. The third is in the town of Buffalo northwest of the WIS 35/54 intersection.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:
- Remove the existing bridges and replace them with new structures.
- Reconstruct bridge approaches.
- Replace guardrail and pavement markings.
During construction, WIS 35 will be reduced to one lane over the structures, and traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Construction is scheduled for completion in August.
