Proposal would place heavy stone around bridge piers to prevent further erosion

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed rehabilitation project on the US 2 bridges over Fish Creek east of WIS 13 North in the Bayfield County towns of Barksdale and Eileen.

The piers on both structures are exposed to erosion because of the flow of water in and out of the Chequamegon Bay. To stabilize the piers and prevent further erosion, WisDOT is proposing to:
- Place heavy stone in the waterway at the piers.
In addition, the project will include replacing substandard roadway guardrail.
Construction is scheduled for 2024. During construction, US 2 will remain open to traffic, but single-lane closures will be needed to complete the work.
