Construction on I-94 bridge replacement project in St. Croix County to resume

​Work in 2022 includes removing and repl​acing eastbound bridge over the Rush River

Construction on the final year of a multi-year project to replace the I-94 bridges over the Rush River west of Baldwin in St. Croix County is scheduled to resume Monday, April 10.

Once construction begins, work in 2023 will include:

• Removing and replacing the eastbound bridge.
• Replacing the pavement approaching both sides of the structure.

Traffic on eastbound I-94 is expected to be switched onto the temporary roadway the afternoon of Tuesday, April 11. During construction, two lanes of traffic for both east- and westbound I-94 will be maintained, but motorists will encounter lane closures on eastbound I-94 during off-peak travel times. Beginning April 10, those will be:

• 5 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
• 5 p.m. Tuesday to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
• 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday.
• 6 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday.
• 7 p.m. Sunday, April 16 to 10 a.m. Monday, April 17.

The westbound bridge was replaced in 2022. That structure and the eastbound one built in 2023 will be wide enough to allow for an additional lane of traffic on the interstate when warranted.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-October.

Lunda Construction Co. of Black River Falls is the prime contractor for the project.
