Governor Evers approves US 8 resurfacing project in Rusk County

​​​​Work also includes re​placing culverts, curb, gutter, guardrail and sidewalk curb ramps

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $6.17 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project in Rusk County on US 8 from Cedar Swamp Road southwest of Weyerhaeuser to the Chippewa River in Bruce. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, July 10.

This segment of US 8 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and placing new asphalt pavement.
  • Replace culvert pipes.
  • Complete shoulder work.
  • Replace curb, gutter and guardrail, along with sidewalk curb ramps in Bruce.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During construction, motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in October.​
