WisDOT seeking input on US 53 median cable guard project

Proposal adds barrier from County QQ to La Salle Street in Eau Claire County

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed safety improvement project that adds cable guard in the median on US 53 from County QQ in the town of Seymour to La Salle Street in the city of Eau Claire, all in Eau Claire County.

The public is invited to go to the project website, review a presentation and handout and submit comments by email or mail to project staff by Dec. 18, 2023:

Because of cross-median crashes at these locations, WisDOT is proposing to:

• Install cable guard in the median.
  
• Place gravel along the shoulder.
• Reconstruct drainage structures.
• Restore the construction site by placing seed and fertilizer.

During construction, US 53 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter shoulder and occasional lane closures.

Construction is scheduled for 2024.
