Estimating - work classifications

Work classifications prescribe what type of contractors are able bid on each proposal. Bureau of Project Development will enter work classification into AASHTOWare ProjectTM at the proposal level.
  • Work classifications instructions
  • See Work ratings for classification descriptions.
    • Note: Gravel and crushed stone (classification E) should ONLY be used for stockpiling projects. Normally, gravel and crushed stone quantities should be included in grading (classification B).
  • Are assigned using the following percentages:
    1. Work Class "A" should be used as a standalone designation when all other individual class sub-totals are ≤ 35 percent of the PSE Estimate.
    2. Work Class "B" through "K" shall be combined with class "A" if the sub-total for that class is > 35 percent and < 67 percent of the PSE Estimate.
    3. Two work classes (Class "B" through "K" ) should be used in conjunction with class "A" if the sub-total for each class is > 35 percent and < 67 percent of the PSE Estimate.
    4. Use a single Class Symbol (other than "A") when the sub-total for that class is ≥ 67 percent of the PSE Estimate.
