Location
WIS 21, Juneau County line to WIS 13, Adams County
Project Overview
The existing WIS 21 pavement is showing signs of distress with longitudinal and transverse cracking, rutting and patching. These cracks allow water and deicing chemicals to enter the pavement and accelerate the deterioration of the roadway. Proposed improvements include to mill 4-inches of the existing asphalt surface and overlay with 4-inches of HMA pavement from the Juneau County Line to WIS 13. The underlying pavement and base course still retain their structural integrity and will remain in place. A mill and overlay of the pavement will extend the service life of the roadway in a cost-effective manner. The structure over the Big Roche A Cri Creek in Arkdale, will be rehabilitated with deck edge repair and surface repair. Three box culverts and three cross culverts will be replaced.
Traffic Impact
During construction, WIS 21 will remain open to traffic. Motorists can expect daytime flagging during construction. Single lane closures using temporary traffic signals will be used at the box culvert and bridge repair locations. Access will be maintained to the Wisconsin River public boat landing.
