US 53 (County M (Main Street) Bridge), New Auburn - Chippewa County



​Loc​ation

​The project is located on the County M (Main Street) Bridge over US 53 in the Chippewa County village of New Auburn.

Overview

Built in 1972, the structure is in need of rehabilitation. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation proposes to:

  • Overlay the bridge deck with concrete.
  • Replace the bridge joints and bearings.
  • Make concrete surface repairs on the structure.
  • Replace damaged railing at spot locations.
  • Place asphalt on the roadway approaches on both side of the bridge.
  • Evaluate and upgrade guardrail on US 53 at the bridge.

Traffic Impac​​ts

During construction, County M will remain open, but traffic will be shifted to one side and then the other.

Sched​​ule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.
