Location
US 63 at the Beaver Dam Lake structure in the Barron County city of Cumberland.
Overview
US 63 is showing signs of deterioration as is curb and gutter, resulting in a reduced ability to handle roadway drainage. In addition, the navigational clearance under the box culvert under US 63 needs to be increased to improve navigational clearance. To address these, WisDOT proposes to:
- Remove the existing box culvert and Lake Street Bridge and replace them with a single bridge.
- Raise the roadway about 3.5 feet at the structure to increase the navigational clearance.
- Reconstruct US 63 approaches on both sides of the new structure.
- Reconstruct portions of Lake Street,
Nedvidek Street and Babcock Avenue to match new US 63 raised profile.
Real Estate
Right-of-way acquisition is anticipated in order to build the bridge and potentially install a temporary bypass during construction.
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2025.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, US 63 will remain open to traffic; however, traffic might be reduced to one lane using a temporary bypass.
