Location
The proposed improvement project is on US 63 between Red Wing, Minn., and Ellsworth, Wis., from the Minnesota/Wisconsin state line to US 10 in the Pierce County town of Trimbelle.
Overview
The pavement on this 11.2-mile stretch of US 63 is beginning to deteriorate, so to maintain the service life of the pavement and preserve the highway's pavement subgrade, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Removing 3.75 inches of asphalt and placing 3.75 inches of asphalt.
- Adding rumble strips.
- Adjusting guardrail.
- Completing culvert maintenance.
- Installing permanent pavement markings.
Schedule
- Virtual public involvement meeting: February 2023
- Construction currently scheduled for 2026
- Construction could occur as early as 2025 if the funding becomes available.
Traffic Impacts
US 63 will remain open during construction, but motorists will encounter daytime lane closures controlled by flagging.
