Project overview
The project is along US 18 and begins at Jefferson Street in the City of Fennimore and runs 11.2 miles to County Line Road in Montfort. The roadway surface is aged with alligator cracking, and longitudinal and transverse cracking. 4 Cattle Passes will be evaluated and if no longer in use, removed and replaced with culverts, if necessary. Curb ramps are outdated and will be reconstructed to current ADA standards.
Treatment is needed to extend the pavement service life.
- Urban portion (Fennimore, Jefferson Street to Marsden Park Street) – Pavement Replacement with subgrade improvements.
- Rural portion (Marsden Park Street to WIS 80) - Mill existing pavement surface and place new asphalt.
Other improvements include:
- Replace all curb and gutter in Fennimore
- Upgrade curb ramps to meet ADA standards
- Evaluate Right of Way needs pertaining to curb ramp locations
- Evaluate existing beam guard, eliminate if possible
- Evaluate 4 cattle passes for removal and replacement with culverts

Traffic impacts/detours
There will be a detour utilized for this project. The detour route will be evaluated and finalized as the project progresses. The detour route currently being evaluated is USH 61/STH 81/STH 80. A detour will be needed for the underground work in Fennimore and for the removal of cattle passes in the rural portion.
A moving flagging operation will be utilized for milling and paving operations in the rural portion of the project to guide local traffic through the work zone.
The project will include temporary pedestrian accommodations in Fennimore during sidewalk work. Pedestrian accommodations will include a combination of pedestrian detour routes and temporary measures.
