Culvert replacement work will result in month-long highway closure

Release date: March 31, 2023

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.86 million contract with prime contractor Mathy Construction Co. of Onalaska for a resurfacing project on WIS 121 from County FF South east to WIS 95. Construction is scheduled to start Thursday, April 6.

To address deteriorating pavement and aging structures, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Replacing culverts that have reached the ends of their service lives.
  • Upgrade guardrail.
  • Install rumble strips.
  • Replace pavement markings.

WIS 121 will be closed to through traffic for culvert replacement, and motorists will be detoured via WIS 95, I-94 and WIS 121. The highway is anticipated to be closed Monday, April 10 through Wednesday, May 10. Once it reopens, motorists will encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in June.
