Release date: May 5, 2023
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has executed an emergency contract to repair the WIS 35 pavement, shoulders and pavement markings damaged by heavy equipment used in the train derailment recovery efforts near De Soto.
Highway repair work started today and will continue through the weekend. WIS 35 is scheduled to open to traffic under work zone conditions starting Saturday (May 6). The work will be completed early next week, subject to favorable weather.
Motorists are urged reduce speeds and anticipate traffic flagging operations near the work zone.
The WIS 82 crossing to Lansing, Iowa is open to traffic. The highway closed on April 25 due to flooding in the area. Receding water levels have allowed WisDOT technicians to complete sonar and visual readings to determine the highway infrastructure was not damaged by the flooding. The highway and bridges are safe for travel. For the latest traffic information, incident alerts, and travel conditions on Wisconsin roadways, visit
