Chip sealing planned on segment of US 10 in Trempealeau County

Release date: July 31, 2023

Maintenance crews from the Trempealeau County Highway Department plan to chip seal a segment of US 10 from the Buffalo County line east to Hunt Lane west of Eleva on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

A chip seal consists of a layer of crushed stone placed on top of an application of liquid asphalt to reduce further deterioration of the pavement.

Loose stones will be on the highway temporarily during the initial cure of the asphalt. Once the chip seal has cured, crews will sweep the highway to clear away loose stones.

During chip sealing operations, US 10 will be open to through traffic, but motorists will encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging. The work is expected to be completed in one day.

Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.

Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
