Release date: August 2, 2023
Maintenance crews from the Burnett County Highway Department plan to chip seal a section of WIS 70 from County X in the unincorporated community of Hertel east to the Washburn County line on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
A chip seal consists of a layer of crushed stone placed on top of an application of liquid asphalt to reduce further deterioration of the pavement. Loose stones will be on the highway temporarily during the initial cure of the asphalt. Crews will sweep the highway to clear away loose stones after the chip seal has cured.
Fog sealing and pavement marking will follow the same week. A fog seal consists of applying an asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface.
During chip sealing operations and the other work, WIS 70 will be open to through traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flaggers during daytime work hours.
Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.
Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
