Built in 1955, the Douglas Creek Bridge is 0.3 mile north of the WIS 54/County D intersection in the town of Melrose. Built in 1986, the Roaring Creek Bridge is 2.1 miles east of the WIS 54/County H intersection in the town of Irving. Both need maintenance, and WisDOT plans the following at:

Douglas Creek

  • Replace the concrete deck.
  • Complete surface repair of abutments and concrete caps.
  • Clean and paint bearings.
  • Install stainless steel flashing along edge of new concrete deck.

Roaring Creek

  • Replace the concrete deck.
  • Add concrete approach slabs.
  • Add riprap between abutments and stream edge.
  • Replace metal bridge rail with concrete parapets.
  • Replace guardrail and asphaltic flumes at all four quadrants of the structure.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2027. During construction, WIS 54 will be closed to through traffic, with that traffic detoured via WIS 71 and WIS 27.
