Pavement on WIS 77 in Sawyer and Ashland counties to be treated

Release date: August 15, 2023

Maintenance crews from the Ashland County Highway Department plan to scrub seal the following sections of WIS 77 in Sawyer and Ashland counties next week:

  • Sawyer County: Hollywood Road south of Ghost Lake to the north leg of Old Highway 77. Work will begin Monday, Aug. 21. In addition, fog sealing and pavement marking will follow in the same week.
  • Ashland County: About one mile east of the south leg of County GG in the unincorporated community of Clam Lake east to Forest Road 347. Work will begin Tuesday, Aug. 22. A fog seal will follow a few days later.

A scrub seal is an application that is very close to a chip seal treatment where asphalt emulsion and crushed rock are placed on an asphalt pavement surface. The asphalt emulsion is applied to the road surface through a series of brooms placed at different angles.

A fog seal consists of applying an asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface.

During operations, WIS 77 will be open to through traffic, but a pilot car will guide traffic through the work zones.

Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.

Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
