WIS 70 east of Spooner to close for improvement project

Motorists will be detoured via US 53 and US 63 during culvert replacement/bridge construction work

Release date: August 17, 2023

To maintain a safe roadway for travelers, WIS 70 at the Yellow River east of the city of Spooner in Washburn County is expected to be closed to traffic midweek the week of Aug. 21. Motorists will be detoured via US 53 and US 63.

Installed in 1964, the culvert carrying the Yellow River under WIS 70 has reached the end of its service life. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove and replace the existing culvert with a bridge.
  • Replace the pavement on both sides of the structure.
  • Place new pavement markings and signage.

Construction began this month, and the project is scheduled for completion in late October.
