Issued to rental companies regularly engaged in the business of renting motor vehicles for 30 days or less to others without drivers or renting trailers to others to be hauled or propelled by a motor vehicle, where such vehicles will be used for-hire, or as a private motor carrier as defined in Chapter 194, Stats.
This does not apply to the renting of automobiles, motorcycles, or trailers used therewith when such vehicles are operated in private motor carriage.
Issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Motor Carrier Services Section as set forth in Wis. Admin. Code Trans 175 Sec. 175.03. Each rental company, before engaging in such business, must file an application and secure an identifying registration number.
