Location
US 12 from Industrial Drive in the city of Altoona east to the bridge over Fall Creek in the Eau Claire County village of Fall Creek.
Overview
The existing pavement on this segment of US 12 is deteriorating with cracking and rutting present with spot locations of more severe cracking. In addition, this stretch has deteriorating guardrail and culverts and poor ditch drainage, and roadside vegetation is encroaching into the roadway clear zone, causing shading on the roadway. There also are run-off-the-road crashes occurring here. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Milling the existing asphalt pavement and overlaying it with asphalt.
- Widening the existing three-foot paved shoulder to five feet and installing shoulder rumble strips to improve safety.
- Replacing or removing guardrail.
- Replacing and cleaning culverts.
- Cleaning ditches south of US 12 near Schultz Road and approximately 500 feet west of the Fall Creek Bridge.
- Clearing trees within the right of way between Voight Road and Connell's Club 12.
- Installing new pavement marking and centerline rumble strips to maintain safety.
Schedule
Construction, estimated at three to four months to complete, is scheduled for 2025.
Traffic Impacts
- US 12 will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists can expect single-lane closures with flaggers directing them through the work zone.
- Local and emergency access will be maintained to adjacent properties.
