Location
WIS 38 between County MM and Rapids Drive - Racine County
Purpose
The proposed project will address the deteriorated bridge structure built over the Root River, and improve overall traffic operations and safety within the project corridor.
Scope
Project overview map
- Replace the over 60-year old bridge with a brand-new bridge
- Replace pavement between County MM and Rapids Drive
- Reconfiguration of WIS 38 and Rapids Drive intersection for improved traffic flow
- Install new traffic signal equipment at WIS 38 and Rapids Drive intersection
- Provide sidewalks and wider shoulders for bike usage between County MM and Rapids Drive
Traffic Impacts:
Staged closure construction: some traffic uses alternate routes, local traffic uses single lane in each direction, some left turns prohibited, delays could be up to ½ mile, north side constructed in first season (2024), south side constructed in second season (2025).
Schedule:
Construction is tentatively planned to start in spring 2024.
In-water Work Restrictions
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) has set restrictions on when the instream construction work can be performed on the project. This has an effect on when construction can take place during certain times of the year.
Public Involvement
A public involvement meeting was held on June 14, 2023 to discuss the construction staging.
