I-43 Bridges Rehabilitation Project - Milwaukee County

Overview

The purpose of the proposed project is to rehabilitate 10 structures over I-43 from N. Halyard Street to W. Capitol Drive in Milwaukee County.

This project includes:

  • Bearing replacement
  • Steel girder repair
  • Painting
  • Deck replacement
  • Expansion joint replacement
  • Bridge overlays
  • Railing replacement
  • Curb ramp updates
  • Pavement rehabilitation
  • Lighting and signal improvements

Additionally, two pedestrian overpass structures will be studied for replacement or rehabilitation.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic control during construction has not yet been determined. Efforts will be made to minimize traffic impacts, including congestion, delays, and queuing. Impacts to transit may involve temporarily closing or relocating bus stops. Accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists will be provided.

As public involvement opportunities​ and materials become available, they will be posted below. As the project continues to move forward, your input is welcomed and appreciated throughout the design process.

Schedule

Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2028.
