The Federal Highway Administration, in cooperation with WisDOT, has prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for proposed improvements in the I-43 corridor in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties. The EIS presents the need for proposed improvements, the alternatives considered to address the identified needs, and the impacts resulting from the reasonable range of alternatives being considered. A discussion of potential mitigation concepts is also included, as well as a summary of the coordination conducted with the public, interested stakeholders, and review agencies.

The EIS also evaluates adjacent arterial roads in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties, including Port Washington Road and Jean Nicolet Road, and the following interchanges:

The national and Wisconsin environmental policy acts require environmental documentation for projects with potentially significant social, economic, natural resource and other impacts. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the lead agency for the EIS, which is prepared in accordance with FHWA guidelines.
