I-90 (County M to US 12), Tomah - Monroe County
Project overview
The purpose of this project is to maintain interstate connectivity. The need for this project to address the pavement deteriorations exhibited on I-90 and WIS 131. The road exhibits cracking, spalling at joints, punchouts, and corner breaks. To address pavement deficiencies on I-90, concrete base patching/replacing concrete (for large areas) is proposed. According to bridge inspection reports four structures exhibit deficiencies I-90 over US 12, I-90 over WIS 131, I-90 over County M and bridge under I-90. Additionally, shoulders on I-90 will be treated in spot locations, while shoulders along WIS 131 will be subject to a 2-inches mill and overlay of asphalt pavement.
I-90 over US 12:
- Bridges has rusting on bearings and girders in spot locations. Structure repair consists of cleaning and painting bearings.
I-90 over WIS 131:
- Bridge has rusting on bearings and girders in spot locations; as well as areas of delamination, spalling, and potholes. Repair consists of cleaning and painting bearings, concrete surface repairs, concrete overlay and base patching.
Bridge under I-90:
- All four tipping wingwalls will be repaired on bridge under I-90
County M:
- A thin polymer overlay will be applied.

Traffic impacts/detours
I-90 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. WIS 131 will remain open to traffic. Ramps will be closed during off-peak hours.
