A variety of internship opportunities
It takes a team of many professions and disciplines to maintain, operate and improve the state highway system. WisDOT interns gain real-world experience and contribute directly to Wisconsin's transportation system.
There are a variety of internship opportunities for students in different areas of study:

Civil and Structural Engineering Students
Student engineer summer intern and co-op positions are available in a variety of civil engineering areas including design, construction, materials, maintenance, traffic, hydraulics, structures, geotechnical, environmental, and more.
Interns receive mentoring from experienced WisDOT engineers and specialists. Many summer interns are hired into permanent entry level roles at WisDOT after graduation. Engineering interns may be headquartered in our regional offices in Superior, Eau Claire, Rhinelander, Wisconsin Rapids, Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Waukesha/Milwaukee or our Central Office located in Madison.

Many WisDOT internships earn more than $14/hour with engineering interns starting between $21.50 and $23.75/hour depending on internship experience/education level.
- 0 years of internship experience - $21.50
- 1 year of internship experience - $22.25
- 2 years of internship experience - $23.00
- 3 years of internship experience - $23.75<
- Masters/ Doctorate - $23.75

Opportunity for Milwaukee Public Schools students: The Aviation Careers Education (ACE) program
The ACE program is a summer employment and learning opportunity for high school students in Milwaukee. ACE promotes aviation and space education, and provides students experiences in aviation-related jobs. The ACE program is administered through a partnership with the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee Public Schools and airport employer/mentors. Learn more:
