The main goal of a bridge preservation program is to maximize the useful life of bridges in a cost effective way. To meet this goal, many of the strategies are aimed at applying the appropriate bridge preservation treatments and activities at the proper time resulting in longer service life at an optimal life cycle cost. The WisDOT Bridge Preservation Policy has been developed to promote and implement systematic bridge preservation in Wisconsin.
