This webpage for the WIS 32 Project design includes alternatives under consideration and connecting highway information. A preferred alternative will be selected during the preliminary design phase. Please provide comment to assist the Department in alternative development.
WIS 32 No Build Alternative
This alternative would make no improvements to WIS 32 and continue to provide routine maintenance by patching the deteriorating pavement, filling potholes, and maintaining the pavement markings.
WIS 32 Pavement Replacement Alternative
This alternative would include pavement replacement from the back of the curb to the back of the curb with potential improvements for business access, bike lanes, and parking.
- To accommodate non-motorized mobility, new on-street bicycle lanes may be considered on WIS 32 where feasible to do so.
- Some minor impacts to the sidewalk area for storm sewer inlet repairs and to bring the curb ramps into compliance with ADA requirements are anticipated.
- The existing at-grade railroad crossings on Main Avenue and Reid Street will be evaluated for safety, signal, and crossing improvements.
- The pavement replacement alternative would minimize the footprint of the impacts of the project.
- The city of De Pere may choose to fund additional improvements behind the back of the curb.
WIS 32 Full Reconstruction Alternative
This alternative would replace the pavement and concrete sidewalk within the existing right-of-way.
- The roadway’s horizontal and vertical alignments may be modified to improve drainage, access, bike lanes, and parking.
- The existing at-grade railroad crossings on Main Avenue and Reid Street will be evaluated for safety, signal, and crossing improvements.
- To accommodate non-motorized mobility, new on-street bicycle lanes would be added to WIS 32 where feasible to do so.
- Improvements completed behind the back of the curb would be funded by the city of De Pere.
- WisDOT funding for this project is proposed to cover the costs of the scope of work related to the pavement replacement alternative.
Example renderings with various options associated with each alternative can be viewed below.
Connecting Highways
WIS 32 within the city of De Pere from the intersection of Broadway and Cook Street to the intersection of Eighth Street and Ash Street is currently designated a connecting highway. No change in connecting highway status for WIS 32 will occur because of this project. The city of De Pere will continue to own and maintain Main Avenue and Reid Street upon completion of the project.
- Connecting highways are local streets and roads that carry state trunk highway travel through cities and villages.
- Connecting Highways locations in the Green Bay metro area are shown below.
- Connecting Highway Aids help local governments maintain these streets and roads at state trunk highway system standards. WisDOT compensates local governments for the incremental costs of through traffic routed over municipal streets.
